Carpe Choices

What have you done this week?  Did you do everything on the to-do list?  Rest and relax and make some life altering decisions? Or....

Did you make 27 lunches, drive 1000 miles in a 5 square mile radius, cook 17 meals and wash 200 dishes?

Someday, I hope to be somewhere in the middle of those two scenarios, but for now I seem to be the latter.

What I am working on now is being ok with this scenario.  It's ok to spend the day cleaning and looking at the house at the end of the day and it still looks the same. Frustrating, yes. Normal, yes. Forever, no.

Each morning, I have begun to write out a goals list for the day.  In the beginning, this list was something to behold and for the most part had things "I thought I needed to do".  Like- scrapbook for 30 minutes, wash fold and put away laundry every day, write notes to 25 friends, write a chapter in the book, edit three chapters, type of flashcards for kids, type in spelling words, work on Scouts, and of course wash, blow dry and fix hair and wear real clothes.

Does your list look like this? Long and Impossible?

Now my list contains things like spend time with each child individually, cook dinner, bake muffins or make sopapilla cheesecake, help them be a little more independent, teaching them to be responsible, write 3 notes to friends (sometimes this is a text message or email), and read a little.

On my new list... the scrapbooking will have to wait, the kids will have to write their spelling words the old fashioned way, the book gets worked on once or twice a week instead of everyday, and most days the hair is in pig tails or a single pony tail and I wear the finest Nick and Nora Pajama pants and layered t-shirts money can buy at Target.

Every day is another step on the journey to live into my calling.  I am simply trying to be comfortable with the calling of being a wife and mother in a world that is constantly pulling me to a faster pace, when all I want is too slow down sit on the front porch with my husband, drink sweet tea, and watch our children grow into the next generation of men.

If you could write a list for your day, what would it look like? I look forward to hearing from you.
